Announcements:
Commander Law announced that a general Members' Meeting would be held on Friday,
16 September at Fiddler's Green Restaurant.
The predicted log event originally scheduled for 17 Sept. has been moved
to 1 Oct. The regular October event – which SDSPS will host – is
scheduled for 22 October at Coronado Yacht Club. Volunteers are needed.
SDSPS will also host the D/28 Fall Conference on 7-8 October at the Holiday
Inn/SeaWorld.
Ship's Mail articles are due to Steven Bakalis by 15 October for the year's
final issue.
OFFICERS' REPORTS :
Commander Katie Law reported on her trip to the Fall USPS
Governing Board meeting in Portland, OR. She was impressed by the
assemblage of 500-plus USPS members from all over the country and encouraged
anyone interested to attend the January Annual Meeting in Orlando. A
major concern was the continuing decline in membership numbers country-wide.
ExO Tom Fota reported that SDSPS had completed 68 vessel
safety checks. He
had no report as IT chair. Katie commented that the squadron is far behind
all other squadrons in the District in the Coop Charting category. A
Coop Charting outing will be held on Saturday before the District conference.
SEO Mike Fontaine reported that the Piloting class was in
process with seven (7) students. Weather had four (4) students pass
the final test. JN
is in process with six (6) students; estimated completion is 1 November. N
will probably begin in early 2006. Instructor Development had seven (7) students
take the final test. AP is scheduled to follow Piloting on 7 November. The
Carlins will start the Boating Course on 3 October at SWYC. Engine maintenance
will begin on 13 September. We need an instructor for Marine Electronics next
year, and suggestions would be appreciated.
AO Nancy Renzi was not present, but was coordinating attendance
for the GMM by phone and e-mail. Katie noted that donations for the
Friday evening "hospitality
suite" at the Fall Conference would be sought at the GMM.
Barbara Goddard is organizing the raffle, for which prize donations would be
appreciated.
Secretary Barbara Goddard was not present.
Treasurer Trish Carlin reported the squadron's financial status,
as of 31 August 2005. Commander Law noted that additional District dues
were still to be paid. She also reported that the non-renewing members
list had been reduced by 12 from the original list.
OLD BUSINESS: There was no old business.
NEW BUSINESS :
The Commander stated that recommendations
for merit marks are due from Bridge Officers as soon as possible.
The meeting was adjourned at 1947. The next meeting will be held at the Commander's
home at 1900 on Monday, 3 October 2005.
Respectfully submitted,
Dick Barck
