General Membership Meeting
July 10 2005
The meeting was called to order at the Coast Guard Sector San Diego, Breezy
Point, San Diego, at 1417 by Commander Katharine Law. There were 27 members,
constituting a quorum, and 12 guests.
INVOCATION: The invocation was offered by P/C Bob Hubbard.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The pledge of allegiance was led by ExO Tom Fota.
MINUTES: Consideration of the May minutes was deferred to the September
meeting.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: The commander welcomed the assembled members and guests
and announced that the business of the squadron would be brief in view
of the primary purpose of the occasion, which was social in nature. She
noted the dates of the Sail Fleet races and CNC events for July and August
and reminded members that the District 28 Coastal Rendezvous, for which
P/C Marie Baer was in charge of arrangements, was scheduled for the weekend
of 15-17 July, at Glorietta Bay, San Diego Harbor. She urged anyone who
could do so to attend. Finally, she noted that the San Diego Maritime Museum's "Festival
of Sail," which had been adopted as an official activity of the squadron,
would be held from 17 to 21 August and suggested that members call the
museum or visit the website for the link to sign up.
OFFICERS' REPORTS:
Commander Katie Law thanked the members who had participated in the Sun Road
Marina vessel safety check event. She reported having attended the D/28
Summer Council held at Southwestern Yacht Club on 18 June. She announced
that the D/28 Fall Conference, to be hosted by SDSPS, would be held on
Columbus Day weekend and indicated that members would be asked to assist
in the arrangements with details to be publicized later in the summer.
The commander had also attended the San Luis Rey SPS summer picnic the
previous day. She thanked Commander Van Diehl and Lt Cida Diehl for their hospitality
and for their efforts in attending the San Diego meeting. Finally, she
expressed her intention of attending the USPS Fall Governing Board Meeting
in Portland, OR, on 7-11 September, during which period ExO Tom Fota would
be in charge of squadron affairs.
ExO Tom Fota also thanked the people who worked the Vessel Safety Check
Day at Sun Road Marina and noted that 17 VSCs were performed. He offered
special thanks to P/C Ron Weiner, Chairman of VSCs, who had arranged the
outing.
SEO Mike Fontaine was not present. In his absence, the commander reminded
the group that the June Boating class would be finishing on Wednesday,
20 July, and asked any members free that night to come to SWYC to interview
potential new members. She also noted that R/C Ed Mraz would be teaching
a Boat Smart class on Wednesdays, beginning 27 July, and requested that
people help publicize this course.
AO Nancy Renzi reported that plans for the September members' meeting would
be posted when confirmed, with details to be announced on the website and
in The Ship's Mail. She thanked P/D/C Bill Bridge for his help in grilling
the hamburgers and hotdogs, and expressed appreciation for others who contributed
dishes to our community meal.
Secretary Barbara Goddard deferred her report to the September meeting.
Treasurer Trish Carlin was not present, but the commander noted that renewal
moneys were being automatically deposited into our account and urged anybody
who had not yet sent in their dues to do so ASAP. She noted that it was
possible to do this on-line at the USPS website.
FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER:
Commander Law reminded the group that the San Diego Maritime Museum's "Festival
of Sail," an officially adopted SDSPS event would be held August 17th
through 21st, and volunteers would be needed to help with the people visiting
the 23 tall ships expected to be in the Bay. She urged people to call the
museum or sign up on the link on the squadron website.

The meeting was adjourned at 1432. The next general members' meeting will
be held at a place to be announced in The Ship's Mail on Friday, 16 September
2005, at 1800.
