General Membership Meeting
September 16 2005
The meeting was called to order at the Fiddler's Green Restaurant, San Diego, at 1935 by Commander Katharine Law. There were 12 members, fewer than a quorum, and three guests.
INVOCATION: The invocation was offered by the commander.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The pledge of allegiance was led by ExO Tom Fota.
MINUTES: In the absence of a quorum, consideration of the May and July minutes was deferred to November's meeting.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The commander noted the dates of the Sail Fleet race and
CNC events for October, noting that the "September" CNC date
had been changed to
1 October.
The 22 October CNC outing will be hosted by SDSPS and held at
Coronado Yacht Club.
The 2005 District 28 Fall Conference will be held
at the Holiday Inn, Sports Arena Blvd, on the weekend of 7-8 October. Members
will be asked to volunteer at both these events.
OFFICERS' REPORTS:
Commander Katie Law reported having attended the USPS Fall Governing Board meeting
in Portland, OR, and reviewed several of the highlights. She thanked
the present members for attending the meeting, which was on a different
date from the usual membership meeting night.
ExO Tom Fota reviewed the Vessel Safety Check statistics, noting that San Diego is still ahead of Phoenix.
SEO Mike Fontaine was not present. In his absence, the commander reviewed his written report. She also noted that Fall Boating class will begin on Monday, 3 October, and asked people to take some of the fliers on the tables for posting, to attract students.
AO Nancy Renzi was out of town. The commander passed
around a sign-up sheet for recording food donations to the Friday night "Hospitality
Suite" at the Fall Conference on 7 October, as well as a sign-up sheet
for raffle prizes.
P/D/C Bill Bridge reviewed plans for the Conference and announced that
people should send in their reservation forms ASAP for the Saturday night
dinner, to be followed by the raffle. Raffle tickets were available for
purchase at the meeting, and ticket purchasers need not be present to win
a prize.
Secretary Barbara Goddard was out of town. IT chairman, Tom Fota, had nothing to report.
Treasurer Trish Carlin was not present but had submitted a written report, which was briefly reviewed by the commander.
OLD BUSINESS: None.
NEW BUSINESS: P/D/C Tom Swift presented an award, in commemoration of service teaching the Weather course, to P/D/C Bill Bridge, who received it and read the inscription aloud.
The meeting was adjourned at 2013. The next general membership meeting will be held at Southwestern Yacht Club on Friday, 11 November 2005, at 1900.
Following a brief recess, a presention was delivered by Jody Westberg, Senior Animal Care Specialist, SeaWorld [San Diego], about the Marine Mammal Stranding and Rescue Program at SeaWorld.
