*DATE: 3 August 2009*
* *
*TO: District Commanders and Squadron Commanders*
* *
*FROM: Creighton Maynard, USPS Chief Commander*
* *
*SUBJECT: USPS Adopts SailAngle.com as Communication Platform*
* *
Please be advised that USPS has been working with SailAngle.com to begin
using Private Groups on that website for communicating with the membership.
The USPS/SailAngle.com interface goes online today, 3 August 2009. The
website is free and there are many features that our members will enjoy
using.
The purpose of this communication is to ask each of the District and
Squadron Commanders to introduce the website to the membership. We want
100% sign-up and this is critically important as we want to begin using the
website to communicate with the membership ASAP.
*What’s in it for USPS:*
· USPS will receive two free advertising slots on the website for
life.**
o One slot for National “Join the USPS” advertising.**
o One slot for Education “America’s Safe Boating Course” and others.*
*
· Each local Squadron will receive one free advertising slot on the
website for life.**
o Use your slot to advertise local events such as Vessel Safety
Check, Seminars, etc. to extend your exposure in the local population.**
· SailAngle.com created special members only “Groups” for the each
level of the USPS organization (National, District, and Squadron). These
Groups are functioning mini-websites inside SailAngle.com and contain:**
o Group messaging**
o Group calendar**
o Group photo albums**
o Group discussion forums**
· Single click messaging hierarchy **
o National officers can communicate with all members with a single
click.**
o District Commanders can communicate with all members of their
district with a single click.**
o Squadron Commanders can communicate with all members of their
squadron with a single click.**
· We will use SailAngle.com as an on-line access point for our
educational classes and seminars in order to reach a broader audience and
increase attendance.**
* *
*The expected result:*
· Increased membership and increased revenue from increased exposure
· Easier communication; greater event participation and increased
revenue
· Greater use of educational resources and increased revenue
· Free advertising
The launch date is set for 4 August 2009. Because the membership rules do
not allow us to provide membership information directly to third parties, *
each* USPS member *must* “opt in”. This is where we need your help.
*Action steps for District and Squadron Commanders:*
· Log onto the USPS website at http://www.usps.org**
· Click on “Access SailAngle.com” and follow the steps**
· The website will automatically add you to your District and
Squadron, along with your committees and mailing lists.**
· After completing your profile click on “Take me to my Group Home
Page”**
· View the SailAngle.com Instructional Slide Show (initially it will
be the only item posted in the Group Forum).**
· After completing the action steps, ask each of your officers to
complete the process**
· Take all necessary action to notify the membership and strive for
100% sign-up. This includes:**
o Introduce and demonstrate SailAngle.com at your next general
meeting using the Instructional Slide Show found at:
http://sailangle.com/usps-help.**
o Provide a copy of this letter and the attached sign-up instructions
to each member either electronically through mailing lists, or inclusion in
monthly mailings such as newsletters**
o Continue to actively encourage the membership to sign-up for
SailAngle.com.**
To assist you in the member notification process, a feature article on
SailAngle.com will be published in the August issue of the Compass that will
be electronically distributed on 4 August 2009. The September issue of the
Ensign will also include an in-depth article on SailAngle.com, and an
advertisement reminding members to sign up will appear in the October
Compass.
Should you encounter any issues or malfunctions with SailAngle.com, outline
the issue or problem and email to: USPS.Issue at sailangle.com.
Sincerely,
Creighton Maynard
Chief Commander
